Servicing All of Your Flat & Commercial Roofing Needs

Flat Roofing & Commercial Roofing Options

Repair: Flat roofing and commercial roofing systems are a major investment and you may not be in a position to retrofit or reroof.  In that case a repair to the problem area on the roof may be the right choice for you.   However, if the flat roof is in very bad shape, you could end up spending the money to have it retrofitted or reroofed anyways somewhere down the line.

Retrofit: A retrofit is a good middle ground in terms of cost.  When we retrofit a flat roofing system we recover then existing roof with a brand new flat roofing system.

Reroof: A reroof requires us to remove the current flat roofing system and install a totally new one.

New Roof: In this case we work in combination with the project manager to coordinate the many variables that go into a quality flat roof being built and installed.

What Flat Roofing or Commercial Roofing System Is Right For You?

There are 4 main categories to choose from in the world of Flat Roofing.

  1. BUR or (A.K.A. Tar & Gravel): This roofing system is composed of 3-5 layers of hot tar and tar paper with gravel on top.
  2. SPS or Modified Bitumen: This is a 2 layer system composed of a base sheet and a cap sheet.
  3. Single Ply Systems:
    1. EPDM: This product has been around for 45 years and has a proven track record of being easy to install and maintain.  It comes in both white and black colors that can be used to heat or cool a building depending on the climate.  Obviously, a black colour would decrease heating costs in a Northern climate.
    2. PVC: Also known as Polyvinyl Chloride, this roofing system has been on the market for decades.  Although it does have an Energy Star rating for decreasing cooling costs in hot climates, it’s has a very high chemical content.
    3. TPO: This single ply roofing system is rapidly growing in popularity because it is easy to install and durable.  It also holds a cool roof rating.
  4. Metal Roofing:
    1. Corrugated Metal
    2. Ribbed Metal
    3. Standing Seam

Within these 4 categories of flat roofing there can be a lot of variation in the installation process.  It is best to meet with our flat roofing consultant in order to determine what specifically suits your needs.  All of our flat retrofitting and reroofing comes with a manufacturer’s warranty and a 10 year installation warranty.  We also go the extra step of having a 3rd party roof consultant inspect the flat roof installation to make sure it was installed to meet the standards set out in the specs, Alberta Building Code, and the Manufacturer’s Installation Requirements.
