Warning Signs
How to Tell if You Need a New Roof
There are many tell-tale signs that your roof may need to be replaced. A periodic inspection of your roof and attic will let you detect potential problems before they cause serious damage to your home.

1. Damaged Flashing
May occur due to improper installation, weathering or settling of the home’s foundation.
2. Ceiling Spots
Caused by roof leaks. The source of the leak may be detected by an inspection in your attic.
3. Missing Shingle Granules
Bare spots on your shingles or an excessive amount of granules in your eavestroughs.
4. Blisters
Excess moisture in your shingles, caused by poor drainage or inadequate ventilation, can cause shingles to blister.
5. Shingle Buckling
Bucking of shingles may be caused by poorly installed underlayment, poor attic ventilation or when new shingles have been installed over old shingles.
6. Missing Shingles
Improper nailing or high winds can cause shingles to fall off.
7. Algae or Moss Growth
Large trees near your roof can provide an ideal growing climate for moss or algae.
8. Rotting
Excess moisture absorption and retention can cause shingles to rot.
9. Shingle Curling
Curling may be caused by improper nailing or lack of ventilation in your attic.
